Nick Bergkamp, a former PhD student in Prof. Martine Smit’s group, received the prestigious Van Zwieten PhD Thesis Award 2024 for his cum laude thesis on nanobodies targeting human and viral chemokine receptors. His outstanding work also resulted in a NWO Rubicon grant, enabling him to continue his research as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Jin Zang’s lab at the University of California, San Diego.
Thomas Lamme, a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Chris Schafer, won the NVF Poster Prize for his recently published research on signaling of the chemokine receptor CCR9[MS1] . Both researchers showcased their work with great enthusiasm — Nick through an online presentation and Thomas via a poster session — contributing to a dynamic and engaging meeting.
[MS1]Signal termination of the chemokine receptor CCR9 is governed by an arrestin-independent phosphorylation mechanism.
