NWO allocation research project Imran Avci Open Technology Programme

Share
3 April 2025
Six application-oriented projects, including that of associate professor of Biophotonics and Microscopy Imran Avci of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, can start with the help of funding from the Open Technology Programme from the NWO's Applied and Technical Sciences domain.

Energy-efficient, Modular Photonic Processors for Smart Edge Devices (SPHOTED)

Photonic processors leverage light for optical computation, promising high efficiency for smart edge devices like autonomous vehicles and LIDAR systems that require on-site data processing. However, they demand lowenergy consumption, high speed and modular processors. SPHOTED aims to address this need by pioneering dynamic and energy-efficient modular photonic processors.

The co-applicants are: Rijksuniversiteit Groningen – prof. dr. ir. B.J. Kooi, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven – dr. N. Calabretta.

Open Technology Programme
The Open Technology Programme provides funding for application-oriented technical-scientific research that is free and unrestricted and is not hindered by disciplinary boundaries. The programme offers companies and other organisations an accessible way to participate in scientific research that is intended to lead to societal and/or scientific impact.
