More efficient mentoring and assessment? This is what OnStage means for teachers

Share
25 February 2025
More and more programmes at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam are using OnStage for supervising and assessing graduation projects. And this year, VU Amsterdam is taking a big step forward: OnStage is being rolled out more widely, so that almost all programmes will start working with it.

But how do lecturers and thesis coordinators actually experience this system? And what are the benefits (and challenges) in practice?

In a new video podcast, Arjen Heijstek, process manager for Teaching and Learning Support, and Sjors Keijzer, process administrator, talk to three thesis coordinators: Anne van der Kuyl, Jan Brusselaers, and Jurgen Haanstra. They share their experiences with OnStage and discuss its impact: a smoother and better assessment process, less administration, and more clarity for both students and supervisors.

Of course, there are also technical challenges. “Such as setting reminders and adjusting supervisors”, they mention in the podcast. Still, users are positive and see plenty of opportunities to further improve the system. Their key advice? “Give OnStage a chance and take the time to get familiar with it.”

Curious? Watch the video podcast and discover how OnStage works in practice!
