7 August 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Prof. Dr. A.W.M. (Andrea) Evers, member of the Supervisory Board of VU Amsterdam, on Monday 4 August 2025.

Andrea had been a member of the Supervisory Board since 1 June 2021, and since 2023 she had been chair of the Quality Committee and chair of the Remuneration Committee. She fulfilled her role with passion and unwavering enthusiasm for all aspects of research, education, and valorisation. Within the Supervisory Board, she combined a deep understanding of the dynamics of the academic community with a keen eye for the context in which universities carry out their social mission.

Andrea was an accessible and knowledgeable colleague with a passion for science. Her legacy also consists of the warmth, collegiality, and commitment with which she treated everyone she worked with. Andrea is a lasting inspiration to us; we will miss her terribly. We wish her family, friends, and loved ones much strength in coping with this loss.

Andrea Evers was affiliated with Leiden University as a professor of health psychology, and as a Medical Delta Professor Healthy Society at Leiden University, Delft University of Technology, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. As a member of the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy she contributed to the way in which science can play a role in responding to social issues and the interaction between science and (public) administration that is necessary to achieve this. The Leiden University obituary can be read here.
