The Social Safety Grant Scheme supports initiatives from students, staff, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers that contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment in higher education and academia.
A wide range of projects are eligible for funding: from workshops and training sessions to long-term initiatives aimed at cultural change. Projects that aim to prevent inappropriate behaviour—such as intimidation or discrimination—are also encouraged to apply.
Students, PhD candidates, postdocs, or staff members affiliated with a university or university of applied sciences can submit an application through their educational, student, or staff representative body. The application window runs from 16 June to 3 August 2025.

If you intend to apply, please also inform Jessica van der Schalk, social safety domain manager at VU Amsterdam. She is keeping track of all submissions from within our university, enabling better alignment and synergy between initiatives where possible. This coordination also allows us to learn from each other’s experiences and contributes to more effective joint communication on the topic of social safety.
