Daniele Bonetta received a Distinguished Paper Award at the 2025 ACM SIGPLAN Conference on Object-Oriented Programming, Systems, Languages, and Applications (OOPSLA) in Singapore for the paper titled “HeapBuffers: Why Not Just Using a Binary Serialization Format for Your Managed Memory?”
The paper, co-authored by Daniele Bonetta (VU Amsterdam), Júnior Löff, Matteo Basso, and Walter Binder (USI, Switzerland), was recognized for its innovative solution to one of the most persistent performance bottlenecks in managed languages and VMs: data serialization and deserialization.
OOPSLA is one of the premier international forums for programming languages and software systems research, and is held as part of the annual ACM SIGPLAN International Conference on Systems, Programming, Languages and Applications: Software for Humanity (SPLASH). The Distinguished Paper Award is given to just a handful of exceptional papers that make a significant and original contribution to the field.
