This online workshop offers scholars working in the field of refugee law the opportunity to receive detailed, supportive feedback from members of the IJRL Editorial Board. Whether you are preparing your first submission or seeking to strengthen an existing manuscript, the aim is to help prospective authors develop their work towards successful submission to the IJRL.
The full Call for Papers is available here.
To participate, please submit:
- a brief covering letter, including your name, institutional (or other) affiliation, and an abstract of your paper, and
- a draft paper of at least 5,000 words that complies with the IJRL Instructions to Authors
to secretariaat.sb.rch@vu.nl with the subject line: IJRL/ACMRL workshop submission.
Papers may address any topic within refugee studies or forced migration, provided they engage substantially with international law. Guidance for new authors and further resources can be found here.
The ACMRL and IJRL particularly encourage submissions from scholars based in or writing about under-represented regions, and from authors with lived experience of displacement.
Submission deadline: Sunday, 12 April, 23:59 CEST.
All submissions will be reviewed by the organisers. Selected authors will be notified by late April 2026. Finalised draft articles must be submitted in early June.
The workshop will provide a constructive, collegial environment where participants receive thoughtful feedback aimed solely at improving their work. Discussions will be chaired by Dr. Janna Wessels, Associate Professor at the ACMRL. For questions, please contact j.m.wessels@vu.nl.
This workshop follows the first edition organised by the IJRL and the Refugee Studies Centre at the University of Oxford in December 2025.
