What does it take to be an academic advisor in a diverse and rapidly changing world? Jasper de Roos, academic advisor at VU Amsterdam, sees how the changing student population and the university’s growing responsibility for student well-being have impacted the role.

Attention to well-being has always been part of the job, but it now plays a more prominent part than ever. “Financial stress, performance pressure or online distractions can really weigh students down. You need to understand what’s going on in their world.”
