VU researchers receive initial funding to improve healthcare diagnostics

30 May 2024
In the new project ‘Patient Orchestrated Diagnostics’, VU scientists are investigating what is needed for an improved diagnostic process in healthcare, involving healthcare professionals, patients, and (informal) caregivers. Special attention is given to vulnerable elderly patients.

The team received €10,000 in initial funding from the Human Health and Life Sciences (H2LS) profile theme during the second Grand Challenge workshop on 7 May. The researchers of the winning project aim to develop a system that enhances collaboration and data sharing between healthcare providers and patients. Currently, healthcare data is often tailored to different specialities and is also difficult for patients and caregivers to understand. With this research project, they aim to take the first step towards better collaboration and a more integrated and patient-centred diagnostic process.

They are building on an ongoing initiative by ACTA aimed at establishing elderly care networks in the Netherlands, which include not only the elderly themselves but also their (informal) caregivers.

The research team combines various areas of expertise. Scientists from ACTA, Health Sciences, the Athena Institute, Social Sciences, and the School of Business and Economics are involved.

Sign up for the H2LS Grand Challenges Workshop(s)
VU researchers are welcome to contribute their expertise to the planned VU Grand Challenges. These workshops offer a unique platform for collaboration and innovation. Promising proposals will also receive initial funding. With the Grand Challenge workshops, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam aims to promote interdisciplinary collaboration within the Human Health and Life Sciences (H2LS) community.
