By focusing on open digital educational resources and open education, VU can contribute to better knowledge exchange and innovation in education. This means that VU actively contributes to and learns from the ways knowledge is shared and applied in different parts of the world, with a focus on collaboration with the global south. This initiative aligns seamlessly with VU's open science programme and underscores the commitment to accessible and collaborative education.
Jeroen Geurts, rector magnificus, on signing the agreement: “It's not just about 'sending' information from countries that think they have it all figured out. Importantly, it's also about 'receiving.' Every country, every player on the stage, has its own expertise, experiences, backgrounds, and relevant historical and cultural context. It's high time we start connecting all these different perspectives. Everyone is in. Everyone matters.”
Joining the Knowledge Equity Network will positively influence the future development of education and research at VU Amsterdam: the network opens the door to strategic collaborations, innovative research projects, and broader access to knowledge and ideas.
