The partial demolition and conversion of the W&N building are part of VU Amsterdam's campus development. The west wing of the W&N building will be converted into a stand-alone building. The remaining parts will be demolished. The work is expected to be completed in 2028.
To make room for the work, we will start felling trees in mid-November, a limited number of which will also be transplanted to the VU campus or elsewhere in Amsterdam. We will take the breeding season into account and cut as much as possible 'just in time', only when it is really necessary from the demolition and construction planning point of view. The removal of greenery will take place under ecological guidance to rule out disturbance of year-round protected nests.
The felling is necessary to make room for work on the W&N building in the coming years. There will be no traffic disturbance, but this work may be audible in the immediate vicinity. Electrical and hydraulic equipment will be used as much as possible to minimise noise pollution. Tree felling will take place in phases over the next few years.
Start mid-November
The first phases will start mid-November. These will be completed by the end of 2024. The next phase will follow in autumn 2025. The final phase will take place in autumn 2027. In this way, a green appearance will be maintained for as long as possible.
Land transfer to the municipality of Amsterdam
After completion of the work in 2028, the land will be transferred to the municipality on which the municipality of Amsterdam will realise the new location of Sportclub Buitenveldert.
