Currently, about 80% of all jugs of coffee and/or tea are thrown away. And due to the large number of orders at the same time, service and quality are also under (financial) pressure. Time to opt for a more sustainable alternative.
Previously, it was possible to order coffee and tea jugs for every meeting and every location on campus. Thermos jugs of coffee and tea make up 44% of all catering orders, and 80% of them are not drunk. This wastage no longer suits the current times and VU Amsterdam's sustainability principles.
Quality and service
The large number of (smaller) orders also makes it a challenge for the caterer to get the many coffee and tea orders to the right locations on time, of good quality and hot. The quality of the coffee and tea from the vending machines is usually good and therefore an acceptable alternative. In this way, we are working together towards VU Amsterdam's sustainable goals, combating food waste and contributing to financial savings.
VU Amsterdam ambition: sustainable and healthy
VU Amsterdam already scores very high on sustainability and we are continuously working on achieving VU Amsterdam objectives in this area. In research and education and also in our business operations. Read more.
