Margreet Cornelius new director Cultural Center Griffioen VU

3 July 2024
As of November 1, 2024, Margreet Cornelius will start as the new director of Cultuurcentrum Griffioen at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

With the arrival of Margreet, Griffioen gets a new director with broad experience in the fields of culture and education. Since 2010, Margreet has worked as a manager in the film world: first at Movies that Matter and in recent years at the Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam. For part of her career, she also worked in primary, secondary and vocational education, including as a teacher. Margreet started her career with her own restaurant and she worked for a period as a communications officer at Theater Kikker in Utrecht.

Marieke de Bakker, director of the Office of Student and Educational Affairs, warmly welcomes Margreet to the VU: "Margreet is enthusiastic, committed and has understanding of cultural business. She can strengthen and expand the cultural center in the coming years in cooperation with the staff and other cultural partners at VU."

Margreet Cornelius on her appointment: "I find it an incredible honor to be able to contribute to the cultural offerings of VU. I truly love the strong programs that VU Griffioen offers and can't wait to further connect these with the VU Campus together with the team, students, and staff."

Margreet will succeed current director Eme van der Schaaf. Van der Schaaf was with Griffioen for 15 years and will retire this fall.
