Learning Path Valorisation and Impact

Share
1 May 2024
Ever think about the impact that your work can have outside of academia? IXA has offered a new learning path on valorisation and creating impact.

Would you like to explore how you can increase the impact you’re already making? Then sign up for the Valorization & Impact Learning Line. The goal? To inspire you and make you aware of the power that comes with creating value and impact through your research.

Start and timeline

In January, IXA started a new Learning Path on valorization and impact consisting of 3 modules. This entire Learning Path will be organized twice a year.
In fall 2024, the entire series will be scheduled again. If you are interested, please send an email to info@ixa.nl or stay informed by subscribing to the IXA newsletter.

If you follow the entire Learning Path, the duration of the Learning Path consists of 4 sessions spread over approximately 2 to 3 months.

For whom?

Researchers from Amsterdam knowledge institutions are welcome to join the learning path. The path is particularly suitable for late phase PhD students and postdocs who want to become proficient in valorising their research.

The content of the Learning Path Valorisation and Impact

What can you expect from this learning path? The path consists of 3 modules; an introductory session, an indepth session and two sessions in which you work on your own idea. Participating researchers can work on a number of skills corresponding to their own needs. The focus will be on translating your own research into the idea that you will further develop into a service, product or way of public outreach. Through this learning path you can take your idea a step further in a short period of time.

Form

The modules are offered in a hybrid form, alternating short interactive live sessions on various locations with online information. You can follow all modules as a continuous learning path or as self-standing. The sessions are interactive and will leave plenty of room for questions and collaboration with/ or learning from fellow researchers.

Location

The first session will take place at your own knowledge institution. The knowledge institutions will alternate hosting the sessions so that participating researchers can experience other institutions.

Registration

Would you like to participate? Please register via your manager or department or send an email to Caroline Kleine Staarman: ixa@vu.nl.

No costs

There are no costs associated with the learning path. Simply register beforehand please.

Course design

Module 1: Impact through research: an opportunity?

Get inspired by researchers who have already preceded you in realising impact. In this 1-hour session you will hear more about what valorisation and impact has brought others. You will learn what valorisation and creating impact mean, why it is important and how it can help you as a researcher.

Duration: 1 hour
Location: This first module is organized per institution and also takes place at your own institution.

Module 2: Impact through research: in-depth look at valorisation

In this half-day in-depth session we will delve deeper into the subject matter. You will not only learn about different forms of valorisation, but you will also learn how to shape this process. Discover what kind of support is available and how you can take the first steps towards creating impact through your research or idea.

Duration: one session of 3 hours
Location: The knowledge institutions will alternate hosting the sessions.

Module 3: Impact through research: focusing on your own practice

In this third module you will work on your own idea. During two interactive half-day sessions you will further develop and concretise your idea. At the end of these sessions you will know how to achieve impact. You will have an overview of the steps to be take in a clear plan, and you will know how to make a network analysis that can help you further.
