JupyterHub now available as VU service for education and research

19 November 2024
JupyterHub is a ready-to-use environment for statistics, programming, and computational tasks without requiring complex software installations. Since the introduction, several updates have been added to make data processing in VU education and research even faster and simpler.

Now officially part of VU services, the platform is accessible to anyone with a VUNet ID. “For lecturers, this means more time for substantive lessons, while students can work independently more quickly. Researchers also have access to this workspace for complex data analyses”, explains Wilkin van Roosmalen from the VU IT Linux team.

Custom environments for each course
The specialised Linux team, made up of former VU students, ensures that JupyterHub environments meet the specific needs of courses and lecturers. “By offering customisation, lecturers can easily share their requirements, and a uniform, user-friendly environment is created for all students in a course. JupyterHub supports various programming and statistics programmes, such as R, Stata, Python, Matlab, and C++, enabling lecturers and students to work flexibly on a wide range of tasks. This lowers the threshold for both lecturers and students, further supporting the learning process”, says Shane Minnema, VU IT Linux team.
