Ivana Josimovic won the Young Investigator Award at the EHRS meeting.

12 June 2024
At the 51st meeting of the European Histamine Research Society, held from 23-25 May 2024 in Turin, Ivana Josimovic was honoured with the prestigious Young Investigator Award. Josimovic, a talented researcher in the field of GPCR pharmacology, gave an impressive presentation on ‘VUF26063: a second-generation photoswitchable ligand to optically control the histamine H3 receptor’.

Ivana Josimovic has a background in photopharmacology of histamine receptors, a joint effort with her chemistry colleague Lars Binkhorst. She graduated from the University of Vienna and is a qualified pharmacist in Austria. Since 2019, she has been working as a researcher at the Amsterdam Institute for Molecular and Life Sciences (AIMMS) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 2021, she started her PhD research in Professor Leurs' group.

Besides her scientific work, Josimovic is also committed to gender equality in academia. She is active as a board member of WO&MEN, a voluntary organisation of the VU, where she is heavily involved in promoting equality within the academy.

The meeting in Turin was organised by Arianna Carolina Rosa and her team and took place at the historic Real Accademia di Medicina di Torino. Besides Josimovic, Meichun Gao from VU Medicinal Chemistry also presented her research on the various signalling properties of the H3 receptor isoforms, making the meeting a platform for pioneering research within this field.
