7 October 2024
The annual review of ORCID usage at VU Amsterdam shows an increase in researchers linking their ORCID to their VU researcher profile (in Pure). The university-wide average stands at 44% percent, which is an increase of 9 percentage points in comparison to last year. Data shows that especially (external) PhDs haven’t linked their ORCID yet.

Update your repositories instantly
Are you struggling to keep your research profiles and repositories up to date? When you create or link your ORCID through the Pure Research Portal, your research identity and work are immediately synchronized. This means that any new publication or achievement you add to your ORCID profile will seamlessly update across your chosen repositories. No more tedious manual updates, and yet your latest work is always showcased.

Gain an institute-independent overview of your research achievements
ORCID provides a universal identity that is not tied to any specific institution. It offers you an independent overview of your research achievements that transcends organizational boundaries. This is especially valuable if you move between institutions during your research career, as your ORCID remains consistent and comprehensive regardless of where you work.

Improve your visibility among peers
By linking your ORCID to VU Amsterdam, you become easily discoverable by your peers and collaborators. ORCID is a globally recognized standard that is widely adopted by institutions, publishers and funders. When you use your ORCID in submissions and research proposals, you ensure that your work is respected on a global scale.

Contribute effortlessly to Open Science
ORCID plays a crucial role in advancing open science. It's a non-profit organization driven by the scientific community that gives you control over your own research identity. By participating in this open system, you contribute to the ethos of open science by making research more accessible and transparent. The convenience of ORCID helps remove administrative barriers, allowing researchers to focus on their work and share their findings more readily.

Curious how your faculty is doing in particular? Check in with your secretariat or data steward for your faculty's specific statistics.

Haven’t created and/or linked your ORCID to your researcher profile yet? Take action now! Visit vu.nl/orcid to get started and enjoy the advantages that ORCID brings to your research career. Streamline your research identity and contribute to the advancement of open science.
