18 December 2024
The research team with Anouk Rijs has been awarded an NWO ENW-XL Open Competition Grant for the project 'Approaching De-Novo Life'.

This research focuses on building and analyzing a minimal form of life from synthetic molecules to answer fundamental questions such as: What is life and how did it arise?

The Team

The grant is led by Prof. Sijbren Otto (RUG) with co-applicants:

  • Prof. Dr. Anouk Rijs, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
  • Prof. Dr. Siewert-Jan Marrink, University of Groningen
  • Prof. Dr. Sabeth Verpoorte, University of Groningen
  • Dr. Evan Spruijt, Radboud University

Contribution of Anouk

Anouk will provide molecular insights via mass spectrometry, by analyzing individual droplets. For this, we will combine microfluidics with advanced techniques such as ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS), UV photodissociation (UVPD) and IR multiple photon (IRMPD).

More information about the grant can be found on the NWO website.
