Writing issues
The first type of issue you can get help with are any problems related to writing. For example, you might get stuck while writing, find it hard to create a clear structure in your text or you may have difficulties achieving an appropriate formal style in your thesis. Help is provided by student coaches: master’s students who have been trained in conducting coaching meetings. They will be trained in recognizing common problems that student writers face, and in the characteristics of academic texts. The students will not correct the text, but they will help you correct your own text. So, the responsibility for the text always lies with you. The student coaches will not look at or comment on the content of the text.
Language issues
You can also come to the Writing Lab with language questions. This is not so much about correction or a course, but a kind of 'first aid' for language questions. Here the emphasis is not so much on text correction by the teacher, but on increasing your skills and knowledge. The questions can concern language problems with Dutch and English.
When and where?
You can make an appointment for Wednesday and Thursday afternoon between 14.00 and 16.00 for an individual coaching session with one of the student coaches or with a language teacher. The meetings take place in a consultation room at 2A. You can sign up via: alp.fgw@vu.nl.
