Effect of rising gas prices

Share
20 September 2024
Rising gas prices have a greater effect on Dutch industry than those of our neighbours, according to PhD student in spatial economics Sacha den Nijs (SBE).

This reports BNR Nieuws. This is mainly because the Netherlands uses a relatively large amount of gas compared to countries like Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

‘We looked at what would happen if the gas price suddenly went up tomorrow and what that would do to the competitive position of the Netherlands. This shows that if that happens, the Netherlands will be less able to compete with neighbouring countries,’ says PhD student in spatial economics Sacha den Nijs (SBE).
