ASI Interviewed for Brusselse Nieuwe

10 January 2024
ASI in the News: COP28 Debrief & Stories Project featured in Brusselse Nieuwe

After the conclusion of the SDG Academy: COP28 Debrief event on 19 December 2023, Neele van den Bongardt (ASI Management Director)  and Sjoerd Kluiving (VU’s Distinguished Fellow of the Anthropocene), were interviewed by Bijou van der Borst from Brusselse Nieuwe about the COP28 reflection and the Stories project. The resulting article was featured in Brusselse Nieuwe’s final Climate & Energy Newsletter of 2023.

Here’s a sneak peek into the piece….

Following the annual UN summit (COP28) in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, the VU Climate Expertise Centre held a debrief and concluded, first, that despite the outcome being dubbed historic, all climate scientists are now saddened and have lost hope that leaders could change or revert the climate crisis. "We always tell kids: as long as you try, it's good, but that's not the case here. You can't influence the earth like that, and we are going to lose lives if we fail." Second, the new fluid book was presented, titled 'Dear world leaders: many people are blind to the climate crisis'. It contains a collection of 22 stories on the need for climate action. The stories were written in recent months by scientists, students, and artists during special sessions led by the VU Distinguished Fellow of the Anthropocene of the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute.

The stories in are available in a multimedia fluidbook, that can be downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/e8554dMG.
