1 July 2024
Appointment of Dr. Wouter Hulsbergen as an Endowed Professor to the chair "Flavour Physics at the LHC", on behalf of the Faculty of Science, Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Dutch National Institute for Subatomic Physics Nikhef.

Dr. Wouter Hulsbergen has been appointed as Endowed Professor to the "Flavour Physics at the LHC" professorial chair at VU Amsterdam. The Executive Board of VU Amsterdam has formally approved this position, on behalf of the Faculty of Science, Department of Physics and Astronomy and the National Institute for Subatomic Physics Nikhef, effective from July 1, 2024, until July 1, 2029.

Dr. Hulsbergen has distinguished himself as a leading researcher in particle physics, with a focus on understanding the properties and interactions of particles generated in high-energy collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). His significant contributions to the field have been recognized globally, and this appointment is a testament to his dedication and achievements. Dr. Hulsbergen is a researcher at Nikhef, and has previously worked on the HERA-B, BaBar, and ATLAS experiments. Dr. Hulsbergen is currently involved in the LHCb experiment at CERN, focusing on measurements of matter-antimatter differences and searches for dark matter candidates. Additionally, Dr. Hulsbergen is actively involved in teaching and outreach, giving lectures on particle physics and serving on the board of the Olga Igonkina Foundation, which awards scholarships to promising students.

We are honored to have Dr. Hulsbergen join our faculty as Endowed Professor. The university community is eagerly looking forward to Dr. Hulsbergen's inaugural lecture and the impact his research will continue to have on the scientific community. Details about the inaugural lecture will be shared in due course.
