AI for Health Equity Lab receives ELSA status

23 January 2024
A collaboration between VU Amsterdam, University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Amsterdam UMC and various private and public partners has been awarded with a 'ELSA Lab' label by the Dutch AI Coalition.

The ELSA Lab Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Health Equity will generate knowledge to realise equitable access to healthcare using AI, and identify the barriers and opportunities in doing so. One problem with AI is that certain groups are underrepresented in datasets, which affects the application of AI in healthcare. The ELSA Lab AI for Health Equity aims to increase equity by providing a digital health infrastructure, thus deploying AI solutions to a wider group. In collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, including patient associations and health organisations, knowledge will be shared on a platform.

From VU Amsterdam, the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences and the Faculty of Science are involved in this ELSA Lab.

About ELSA Labs
The ELSA Lab label is a formal recognition of the quality of an activity in line with Dutch goals and ambitions to develop human-centred AI. ELSA stands for Ethical, Legal and Societal Aspects. The aim of the ELSA Labs is to ensure that companies, government, knowledge institutes, civil society organisations and citizens jointly develop responsible applications of AI, for both societal and business problems.
