VU Amsterdam and UT aim to develop an environment within the research center where digital technology is used to improve the quantity, quality, and intensity of physical activity through the interaction between data and the environment. Researchers within the center will, for example, focus on innovations such as sensor technology in the field of sports performance, injury prevention, and rehabilitation.
In addition to research on safe sports and exercise, there will also be a focus on 'Lifelong Learning' (LLL). With this approach, educational institutions aim to involve professionals already working in the field in the latest technological developments that can measure and influence the quantity, quality, and intensity of physical activity. This includes enhancing the expertise of physiotherapists in effectively integrating (assistive) technology or data into their daily work.
The Center for Sports, Exercise, and Health will be located in Apeldoorn. Apeldoorn is a central location for both educational institutions, where there is already considerable attention given to sports, exercise, and health. The center will be connected to the digital platform Sport Data Valley (SDV) and will collaborate with institutions such as Saxion, Roessingh Research & Development, companies, universities of applied sciences, and sports organizations such as Sportcentrum Papendal and NOC*NSF.
Two universities, one ambition
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Twente closely collaborate in the fields of education, research, and valorization. With this, the educational institutions aim to make a significant difference in four societal domains: a resilient and safe society, a clean and sustainable society, a smart and digital society, and talent development.
