The focus will be on large-scale collaborations geared on specific themes. Below, we set out the main points for our researchers:
Splitting of rounds and specific themes: The NWA-ORC 2023-2024 will be split. Each of the 25 routes will be focused on one specific theme. The first 10 themes are expected to be announced on the NWO website in July 2023. The remaining themes will be announced towards the end of 2023. Each theme offers space for one granted application, so a total of 25 applications will be granted. The idea behind this is to better represent the all the different routes.
Budget and duration: Each theme will have a budget of 6,500,000 euros to award one single application. This also means that the various budget ranges no longer exist. The project duration will be stretched and the NWA will be open to longer-term projects (longer than 6 years).
Co-financing: The mandatory 10% co-financing for civil society partners has been abolished.
Participation and procedure:
- Interest in a call can be expressed through a project initiative or an expertise profile. The 'lead applicants' are then expected to attend two mandatory collaboration meetings where one or more competing proposals can be set up.
- This programme concerns a one-step application procces so there is only a complete application (no pre-application). The referee phase and interview phase will be preserved. The (sub)committee will cover multiple routes.
- The first part of the call is expected to open in July 2023 (where the first themes will also be announced), the deadline for expression of interest is expected to be in October 2023.
