The 1953 North Sea flood happened 70 years ago. What is the situation nowadays?

3 February 2023
On 31 January 1953, 70 years ago, there was a devastating flood in the Netherlands, resulting in the loss of 1836 lives.

What is the status of our water protection at the moment? How plausible is it that a disaster on such scale will take place again? And how do we ensure that we upgrade our flood protection (such as the Delta Works) on time with rising sea levels? Our researcher Water & Climate Risk, Tim Busker, discusses this on Radio NPO 1. You can listen to the fragment (in Dutch) here.
