Insight into structure and function of a membrane protein assembly factor

11 May 2023
AIMMS researchers Hojjat Ghasemi Goojani and Dirk Bald joined an international collaborative effort led by the Max Planck Institute for Biophysics in Frankfurt to investigate a membrane protein assembly factor.

Membrane proteins have key functions in living cells, e.g. in signal transduction and energy metabolism, and are prominent drug targets. However, which cellular components are needed for formation and correct functionality of membrane proteins and how these so-called assembly factors work is largely unexplored. The present study elucidates structure and function of an assembly factor, termed CydDC, which is required for proper functionality of energy metabolism components in bacteria.
