Frank van Harmelen is witnessing a fierce battle between the tech giants, with the consequence that the companies won’t tell how they train their models.
“We don’t exactly know what the chatbots can do. Ever since they have been launched, the experts have been surprised on an almost daily basis about what they can do. Technically speaking, we know how the systems work, what we do not know, is which data is used for training and what the system actually is capable of. On top of it, all this is in the hands of American tech giants.
First of all, we will need regulations. The technology is not yet ready to be rolled out in the broad public. “Compare it to a new medicine. We don’t exactly know whom it can cure and why it is so effective, still, we prescribe it to a couple of hundred million patients.” Read more (in Dutch).
