In addition to having your technical skills in order, awareness is a crucial component in preventing security incidents. That's why October has been designated as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a global awareness campaign in which VU also participates.
Unfortunately, the number of security incidents, not only in education and research but also in other sectors, continues to rise. Many of these incidents are related to actions taken by individuals, such as clicking on phishing emails, losing hard drives containing research data, or accidentally sharing sensitive information with all recipients instead of using BCC.
Awareness among students and employees about the secure use of IT resources is, therefore, of utmost importance. The risks are significant, and this places a greater responsibility on users to handle ICT facilities with care. This is why, at VU, we are dedicating the entire month of October to focus on cybersecurity awareness.
