An ingenious system
The worm hotels of Compostier work in an ingenious way. Caterer Eurest and coffee/tea supplier Maas collect coffee grounds and unbleached cardboard. This is inserted at the top. The worms eat it and the worm poop that is harvested at the bottom can then be used as fertilizer for plants and trees.
On the side of the worm hotel there is a looking frame to see the composting worms at work. On the top of the worm hotel, there is a plant box, making the campus a little greener.
Reduce, reuse, recycle
Reduce, reuse, recycle are important principles for how we handle our resources at VU. This includes compoting, the recyling of green waste. The worm hotels are the result of collaboration between students of Green Office (from the initiative Kitchen Garden) and suppliers Eurest and Maas.
