Today, Minister Hoekstra announced that the government, in consultation with the family and the Anton de Kom Foundation, has decided to finance a special chair. The Anton de Kom Chair in the History of Colonialism and Slavery, and their contemporary social, cultural, and legal implications, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will conduct research on the Dutch colonialism and slavery history and how this history continues to impact the present.
The chair contributes to ensuring that Anton de Kom and his ideas receive their rightful place in history education and promotes transatlantic academic collaboration.
It is an interdisciplinary chair at the intersection of Humanities and Law, embedded within the Faculty of Humanities. The appointment for this chair will take place in the academic year 2023-2024.
