VU Amsterdam again most sustainable university in the Netherlands

Share
23 May 2022
Last Friday, the SustainaBul was awarded in which the higher education institutions in the Netherlands are ranked on sustainability. This year, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is the most sustainable university and in second place in the overall ranking. Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences is in the first place and Wageningen University is in third place. This is the third year in a row that VU Amsterdam is in the top 3 universities. In 2020 VU was number 1 and in 2021 number three.

SustainaBul
SustainaBul is the annual ranking of Dutch higher education institutions organized by Studenten voor Morgen. Participating institutions are assessed by means of a questionnaire divided into the themes of sustainability in research, education, business operations and best practices. VU scored the full amount of points for research and best practices.

Best practice VU
In addition, the Sustainability Course Inventory was selected for the top 5 best practices from the 80 projects submitted. The course inventory shows which sustainable courses VU Amsterdam offers on the basis of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This project is carried out together with the Green Office VU. See the link to the inventory here: https://lnkd.in/ebyweA2E

Sustainability at VU Amsterdam
The fact that VU once again scored high shows that sustainability is increasingly part of the core of VU Amsterdam. This is only possible because we take up sustainability as a VU community. For example, the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute connects scientists from across VU Amsterdam, the Sustainability Leadership Hub helps lecturers integrate sustainability into education and the VU Green Office is the sustainability platform for students. Cooperation and impact are the power behind fulfilling the ambitions of the strategic VU priority area Sustainability. Yet we also see that there are still big steps to be taken. Making the university more sustainable is something you do together. So do you have a good idea? If so, please send an e-mail to: sustainability@vu.nl

A Better World @ VU
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam wants to show society sustainable projects and initiatives from education, research, and valorization. A selection of beautiful initiatives and projects will be put in the spotlight on 24 May 2022 via a digital and physical exhibition: A Better World@VU.
