This seminar examined migration law and the exclusion of irregular, precarious and stateless migrants from human rights protection in terms of racial discrimination. Participants’ written contributions approached this topic from legal and interdisciplinary perspectives, with the goal of opening new avenues in legal analysis. The written contributions and meaningful conversation were indeed inspiring for both organizers and participants. This seminar was part of two grant projects funded by the NWO: Karin de Vries, Equality for non-nationals? Nationality discrimination as a new challenge for non-discrimination law; and Jordan Dez & Thomas Spijkerboer, Claim-making as Rights-making: Irregular Migrants Reshaping International Human Rights Law.
The discussions of the seminar will be memorialised in a forthcoming special issue of the Netherlands Quarterly of Human Rights in 2021.
