21 September 2021
In September ACMRL has said goodbye to two dear colleagues, Evelien Brouwer and Elena Zambelli, at a fairwell party at the Amsterdam Eye Restaurant.

Evelien, who has worked nine years at the Centre, will start as Assistant Professor Public law and Technology at the University Utrecht. She will continue her research in the field of EU law and human rights, access to legal remedies, data protection and privacy law, with a special focus on border and visa policies, the use of EU databases and biometrics. Evelien has been involved in teaching in many courses at the Faculty, among which the Migration Law Clinic and the course Migration and Legal Remedies in  the Master program International Migration and Refugee Law and the crouse Human Rights and the Border in the Minor Law and Global Society: Internet, Migration and Climate Change .

Elena has been working in the EUROMIX-project of Betty de Hart since 2017 on a multi-sited ethnographic research exploring the implication of law in race-making in contemporary Europe through the lens of the regulation of ‘mixed (race) couples'.  Moroever, Elena was involved in teaching in the Minor Law and Global Society. She co-supervises the PhD's of Rebecca Franco, Nawal Mustafa and Andrea Tarchi, and will continue to do so when she starts in October 2021 as senior reseacher associate at the department of sociology of the University of Lancaster, United Kingdom. Elena will conduct research into the long-term impact of Brexit on the migration between the UK and the EU, in the project "Rebordering Britain & Britons after Brexit', lead by Michaela Benson and Nando Sigona.

Both Elena and Evelien will be missed, for their expertise as researchers, as inspiring teachers but most of all as very nice colleagues.
