Immersed in the world of Homer
Why does a story or a film make you feel as if you are in another world? Why do you, as a reader or viewer, empathize with the characters? Professor of Ancient Greek Language and Literature Rutger Allan will discuss in his lecture the various narrative techniques used to transport the reader into the world of the story.
Allan will illustrate a number of these techniques using examples (translated into Dutch) from the Greek epic the Iliad by Homer (8th century BC). This influential epic leaves no stone unturned to immerse us, as readers or listeners, in the world of the story.
