ABRI Symposium: Leadership in Innovation Ecosystems

We are happy to invite you to the Symposium Leadership in Innovation Ecosystems - How Leaders Frame Value, the Future, and Novelty organized by ABRI, the Management and Organization Department, as well as the KIN Center for Digital Innovation.

The symposium will take place on Wednesday, September 2nd, from 10:00 to 11:30 (Novum 7).

Introduction
How do strategic leaders and entrepreneurs shape the future of their firms and ecosystems, not only through what they do, but through how they frame what they do? This mini-symposium brings together three leading international scholars working at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and organization theory to explore this question.

  • Prof. Paolo Aversa (King's College London) examines how strategic leaders drive firms' roles in ecosystems, drawing on a longitudinal study of Dallara Automobili (1972–2025) to show how a leader's theory of value translates into knowledge orchestration and progressively more expansive ecosystem roles.
  • Prof. Yuliya Snihur (IESE Business School) discusses the power (and perils) of entrepreneurial framing, examining how founders design, communicate, and legitimate novel ideas in contexts marked by disruption and uncertainty.
  • Prof. Georg Reischauer (Leuphana University Lüneburg / JKU Linz) turns to framing and alignment in mature ecosystems.

Overall, the symposium attempts to illuminate how cognition, language, and leadership interact to shape innovation outcomes and ecosystem evolution. The symposium offers faculty and PhD students an opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research and to discuss their own work with the visiting scholars.
 

Biographies

  • Paolo Aversa is Professor of Strategy at King's Business School, King's College London and Adjunct Professor at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on innovation and the evolution of industries and ecosystems, concentrating on technology-intensive settings to explore radical innovations, digital transformation and business models. He is globally considered the leading academic expert in the motorsport and Formula 1 industry. He serves as Consulting Editor at the Journal of Management Studies and on the editorial boards of Organization Science and Academy of Management Discoveries. His work is published in leading journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management, and Research Policy. He received various awards and honours, including a Knighthood (Order of the Star of Italy) for his research and impact.
  • Yuliya Snihur is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at IESE Business School. Her research lies at the intersection of entrepreneurship, innovation, and organization theory, with a particular focus on business model innovation, entrepreneurial framing, and ecosystem change. Drawing on cognitive and linguistic perspectives, her work examines the role of founders, language, and social evaluations in shaping entrepreneurial action and innovation outcomes. Her work is published in leading journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and Strategic Organization.
  • Georg Reischauer studies technological changes in business and society at Leuphana University Lüneburg and Johannes Kepler University Linz. He has published in journals including Academy of Management Discoveries, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Studies, Research Policy, and Strategic Organization. He serves as an Associate Editor at Industry and Innovation and Schmalenbach Journal of Business Research.
