The Templeton Foundation supports research and public engagement projects across several key areas:

- Religion, Science, and Society: Studies on the interactions between culture, religious traditions and spirituality, and their impact on human health and flourishing.
- Character Virtue Development: Research advancing the science and practice of virtues such as humility, gratitude, curiosity, diligence, and honesty.
- Public Engagement: Initiatives that create public awareness, especially of topics at the interface between science, religion, wonder and meaning.
