Science with Society Festival 2025 19 June 2025 13:30 - 17:00

Share
In June, we will organize the Science with Society Festival. Residents, welfare organizations, policy makers, students (from VU and HvA), teachers and scientists join forces to find together honest and effective solutions to complex social issues within and outside Amsterdam

This event is part of VU Open Science Week (June 16-20), a week of knowledge sharing and collaboration between science and society. On June 18, you can also participate in the International Learning Lab on sustainability in education.

The central festival will take place on June 19, 2025 at the OBA Oosterdok. The festival is all about encounter, exchange, inspiration and interaction. Interdisciplinary student teams from VU and HvA have spent the past five months working on projects around social issues. During interactive sessions, they will share their insights and engage in conversation with attendees, including residents, policymakers, researchers and other interested parties. All sessions are in English.

VU students (iCSL2 master's program):

  • Three sessions on Healthy and Sustainable Food Systems:
    • "Digital Village," "Resilient Urban Food Environments," "We Are Local."
  • Two sessions on Mental Health and Resilience:
    • "Religious Belonging and Loneliness," "Healing from Institutional Racism"
  • Two sessions on Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient Cities:
    • "Citizen Science," "Energy Transition"

HvA students (minor in Positive Psychology):

  • Interventions against loneliness in the elderly in cooperation with Cordaan
  • "Sports Adventures" - game against excessive phone use among young people
  • Reflection magazine on phone use and identity in people in their twenties
  • Queer and Sober (to follow)
  • Positive Psychology for student volunteers at Buurtcampus Nieuw-West
  • Buddy program against social isolation in the elderly
  • Board game for connection between interns and residents at Buurtcampus Nieuw-West
  • AUAS got talent! - Talent-oriented work within the HR of the HvA

🌟 Why in the OBA? We consciously chose the OBA as a location: a neutral place in the middle of the city, accessible to everyone. We also want to invite as many residents as possible to join the dialogues. Feel free to share the invitation with your network - and beyond!

We will end the day together with a plenary session and drinks!
