On Friday, February 21, Luigi Corrias and Bart van Klink (Legal Theory and Legal History) are hosting a seminar where various speakers will explore the role of law in an era where humanity, or the human subject, is no longer the unquestioned focal point.
Key themes:
- The role of law in the Anthropocene. An era where human activity profoundly impacts the planet.
- The legal person in the age of transhumanism. How does the law respond when technology reshapes the boundaries of what it means to be human?
- Dehumanization in international (criminal) law. How does the law address diminishing notions of humanity in global justice?
The first part of the seminar will feature keynote presentations by Hans Lindahl (Tilburg University), Laura Jacobs (VU), and Luigi Corrias. In the second part, Hans Lindahl will present his book manuscript on law in the Anthropocene, with responses from Lukas van den Berge (Utrecht University), Bart van Klink, Wouter Veraart, Bent Bos, David Rossati, and Luigi Corrias (all VU).
This event is made possible with support from the Kooijmans Institute and will take place in IN-3B44 from 13:30 to 17:00. Interested participants are warmly invited, but spaces are limited. For more information, contact l.d.a.corrias@vu.nl
