'The Court as Landscape' is a study by visual artist Machteld Aardse and VU criminologist Tasniem Anwar, with support from Robbin Talens. From 2021, they documented several high-profile court cases on terrorism and terrorist financing in the courts of Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The research had an academic dimension on the one hand, but also resulted in a large number of drawings. In them, they give a glimpse of the human side of law. The exhibition features, among other things, the emotional experiences in court and the broader social issues that impact on the judicial process.
After a previously successful exhibition at the Rotterdam District Court, and a pilot in Amsterdam, the makers have now put together the exhibition based on the project, in cooperation with the Amsterdam District Court. With the exhibition, they hope to bring the court and the people of Amsterdam closer together. With drawings and texts, the initiators provide an open view of the court. In this way, they aim to strengthen the connection between society and the law and increase trust in the judiciary
You are welcome to attend the exhibition!
