Supporting researchers in storing their sensitive research data is daily business for data support professionals at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. However, the same type of data collected by BA and MA students lacks the same level of streamlined support, due to the dedicated storage locations and support from data stewards being limited to researchers. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is not unique in this issue: the storing of sensitive data collected or used by students is a pressing matter among all Dutch universities.
Call for use cases: What are your experiences with storing sensitive data collected by students?
This Data Conversations we want to address your experiences regarding student collected sensitive data. Did you run into structural, judicial or financial walls? Did you figure out a way to ensure secure storage for your students or did students themselves rise up to the challenge? We are interested in every roadblock, goat path, frustration and eureka-moment in working with interview videos, surveys, company secrets, genetic information and other forms of sensitive data collected by students.
During the Data Conversations we’ll discuss these issues in plenary setting with peers, data support professionals and policy makers and try to address the roadblocks and possible solutions. All use cases will be integrated into a project proposal to address this lack of dedicated storage. Even if you’re not able to attend the data conversations, your feedback will be taken into account moving forward on this project.
And as always, lunch will be included.
Please send your use cases beforehand to t.m.hofstra@vu.nl.
