Alumni event MSc Finance 5 March 2025 17:00 - 19:30

Share
Join us for the first alumni event of the Master's in Finance programme at VU Amsterdam!

On the evening of Wednesday, 5 March, alumni, faculty members, and students will gather to discuss the impact of Machine Learning on the field and seize the opportunity to connect with industry peers. Experience the typical VU spirit with an inspiring programme and a social networking gathering. Do not miss out on this special opportunity!

Keynote presentation on Machine Learning

Machine Learning is a hot topic today due to the vast amounts of data and the decisions made based on it. Associate Professor Anne Opschoor will provide an overview of basic and advanced machine learning models and their latest applications in various areas of Finance. He will also discuss how to deploy these tools in business or policy, through start-ups or within large organisations. While some knowledge of how these tools work is necessary, Opschoor emphasises that understanding what these tools do well and what not is crucial.

Machine Learning in Practice: Insights from Alumni

An alumni event would not be complete without hearing from our former students who are experts in their fields. First, we will give the floor to Sebastian Schneider, Quantitative Researcher at global asset manager Robeco. He will discuss the competitive nature of the financial markets, which makes it challenging to consistently outperform them, implying that constant innovation is not just a nice-to-have but a necessity. In his talk, he will explore how Machine Learning can be applied to enhance the investment process.

Next, we will take a broader view with Jonathan Eggersman, Senior Manager Digital Finance and Financial Planning & Analytics at EY. He will delve into the impact of Machine Learning on the sector. How do you make it successful? What roles are needed in your organisation, which roles will disappear, and which new roles will emerge? In short, what is the impact of Machine Learning on the future of Finance professionals?

Social Gathering: Networking with Peers and Students

As part of the event, we invite you to connect with MSc Finance students, share your experiences, and, if you wish, present your company. Our students are keen to hear more about your career.

For this event, there is a small participation fee of €12.50, which includes a light meal during the networking drinks.
