This increases risk of secondary traumatization, as individuals indirectly experience the pain and horror of others which can lead to anxiety, depression, and feelings of helplessness, hence deeply affecting mental health. Recognizing and addressing these impacts is essential, as open conversations and access to mental health care can help students to process their emotions and find support within the face of ongoing global violence.
During this gathering Marije Luitjens will talk about the importance of secondary and vicarious trauma-awareness raising, using her own ethnographic research experience. After this, there is room to discuss personal experiences in small groups guided by professional spiritual care givers.
