Universities help us to conserve and generate living knowledge to the greater benefit of humankind. To achieve this, universities need to consciously foster tolerance and encourage participation.
But what does this participation look like? What role do students play in this process of democracy at the university? And what can you as a student do?
This is why we are organizing a talk on the perspective of students on democracy at the university in the light of the upcoming student elections on March 20th at 3D, the VU dialogue center.
At the beginning of April, the yearly student election will take place at the VU. All students get to vote for the University Student Council and their Faculty Student Council. And by voting all students can have their voices heard. Topics like social safety and academic freedom are on the table.
Though democracy at a university is a (slow but) continuous process, it remains an important process. This is about speaking up and being heard. Student democracy at VU isn't just a hobby for the happy few or a yearly on-campus event. It’s an opportunity and even a duty for all students.
So, we invite you to join the conversation on democracy and elections at the Vrije Universiteit with current and former University Student Council members.
