The Academic Heritage Collection contains more than 150 portraits of professors, administrators and others who have meant a great deal to the university. In doing so, VU follows a centuries-old tradition of universities worldwide. In 2025, a new gallery will feature these portraits, but how do we put this centuries-old tradition into a contemporary one?
This temporary exhibition already shows a small selection of paintings. Hanging the oldest portraits next to the newest ones raises all sorts of questions about the university and those who work here. What should a professor radiate? Who other than the academic staff make up the university? And more.
Visit the exhibition, ask your questions and give your input for the new gallery.
