Chinese leadership styles in global business context
Yue Hu researched how Chinese companies become successful abroad and how effective Chinese leadership styles are in other countries. Since the 1980s, Chinese companies have been expanding internationally with the support of national policies, which poses unique challenges in managing international teams.
Hu shows that Chinese companies can successfully internationalize by first developing innovative business models in their home country. Servant leadership improves employee voice and knowledge sharing, especially when there is equity within the organization. Benevolent leadership increases employees' sense of commitment, which motivates them to help each other more and share knowledge, depending on their attitude toward their career.
