Open Science in Qualitative Research 12 November 2024 11:00 - 14:00

Share
Join us for an engaging, hands-on workshop designed to bridge the gap between qualitative research and Open Science.

Open Science scholarship promotes scientific rigour and transparency, fosters collaboration among researchers, and widens the accessibility of research outputs. This workshop will focus on the interplay between Open Science scholarship and qualitative methodologies. We will discuss the benefits and challenges of employing Open Science practices in qualitative research and critically reflect on the consequences of the increased popularity of Open Science scholarship. You will be encouraged to think about how and why you would incorporate Open Science practices in your own qualitative research. To better tailor the workshop to your profile, please tell me a little about your research by answering a few questions in this form.

What to expect

This workshop is structured into two interactive sessions with a lunch break for networking in between.

In the first session, we’ll explore how Open Science and qualitative research complement each other. The second session will focus on practical, actionable steps you can take to immediately start enhancing your Open Science practices.

You’ll also meet like-minded researchers, exchange ideas, and share stories at VU Amsterdam, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

About the speaker

Dr. Bogdana-Raluca Huma, a member of the Language and Communication research group in the Faculty of Humanities, will lead the workshop.

Bogdana's research is situated at the intersection of several social scientific disciplines such as psychology, sociology, and communication studies. Drawing on a variety of interaction analytic methods such as – discursive psychology, conversation analysis, ethnomethodology, and membership categorisation analysis – Bogdana examines how social interaction is organised in everyday domestic and institutional settings, with the aim of developing practical applications and communication training.

Additionally, Bogdana is passionate about Open Science and has written about its compatibility with qualitative research methodologies. Currently, she is researching how Open Science and research management principles are practically implemented in research projects.
