Exhibition: From book gallery to modern library 27 February 2024 - 17 May 2024

What was the library's first book? And how did you search for literature during the last century? Find out in the exhibition on the history of the University Library from 1880 to the present, organised by the Special Collections Department of the University Library.

Originally, the library was the place to find and quietly study literature. Over the past 140 years, the daily practice of the library has changed enormously. The records, photos and old-fashioned devices in the exhibition tell anecdotes about how things used to be. For example, the donation of the first book was accompanied by an eight-page article defending that the book should be accepted. A print shows how the library was bursting at the seams in the 1960s. Old card index sheets show how to search for a publication up to 30 years ago.
