The scientific conference will explore how the four themes of Earth, Water, Food and People are connected. Each session includes three key notes laying the foundation for each theme, followed by six lectures of action perspectives. Representatives from different fields come together in one place for optimal cross-fertilisation. On behalf of VU Amsterdam, ecologist Matty Berg, microbiologist Remco Kort and food scientist Jaap Seidell are involved in this congress.
Planetary health
Planetary Health is a solutions-oriented, transdisciplinary field and social movement focused on analysing and addressing the impacts of human disruptions to Earth’s natural systems (soil, water, nutrients etc.) on human health and all life on Earth.
In collaboration with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and others, ARTIS is organising the first ARTIS Planetary Health Congress. The congress explores how four interconnected pillars; : Earth, Water, Food and People, are related to human health and the health of our civilisation.
The scientific congress will be an annual event which will be organised in collaboration with VU Amsterdam. Within academic education, VU Amsterdam is also putting Planetary Health on the agenda with a new honours course Planetary Health that will start this year.
