This thesis aimed to provide insight into advancements in bariatric clinical care and patient outcome. Our first focus was to evaluate several specific patient reported outcomes. Our second and most important aim was to investigate the feasibility of same-day discharge after surgery, due to the increased demand for bariatric care and hospital resources reaching its maximum. In addition, the covid pandemic caused a further imbalance in care needs and care capacity and same day discharge became an absolute necessity as bariatric surgery could not be performed following standard clinical care protocol. The last studies in this thesis have focused the effectiveness of bariatric surgery in terms of weight loss after 1. The standard provided perioperative lifestyle program and follow-up 2. A particular group of post-bariatric pregnant women and 3. Two technical variations of the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass.
